Add a custom worker

Updated September 28, 2026 · 3 min read

Use the Add Worker wizard to add a custom worker. There are two types: Support, a chatbot that answers your Crisp inboxes, and Success, for onboarding, upsell, and churn recovery. The type you pick decides which setup steps you see and where the worker shows up in the app.

Open the Add Worker wizard

  1. Go to Account → Workers and click Create worker. For a chatbot you can also expand Chatbots in the left nav and click Add worker, or go to Account → Chatbots and click Create chatbot. All three open the same wizard.
Create worker button on the Workers list.

Choose Support or Success

  1. On the Type step, name the worker, describe what it should do in one or two sentences, and pick a card under Purpose. Support is a chatbot, email responder, or dedicated inbox for high-paying customers. Success covers onboarding, upsell, and churn recovery.
Add worker wizard Type step with a worker name, a description, the Purpose hint, and the Support and Success cards.

The two types are set up differently:

Support (chatbot)

Success

Where it appears

Set up a Support chatbot

  1. On the Channel step, keep Crisp as the channel, tick one or more Crisp inboxes, then choose Chat, Email, or Both. The chatbot wakes on visitor messages in those inboxes and replies in the same conversation.
Add worker wizard on step 2 of 6, Channel, with Crisp selected, one Crisp inbox ticked, and Chat chosen.
  1. On Knowledge, connect at least one source the chatbot can search, usually your help center.
  2. Review the default Skills and Guards, add any extra result columns, then submit.

Set up a Success worker

  1. On Trigger, add at least one live or scheduled trigger. You can limit it with Customer segments. See Add a trigger to a worker.
  2. On Incoming data, map fields such as email or subscription plan, or leave it empty to pass events through as they arrive. See Set worker input fields.
  3. Connect at least one knowledge source, review the default Skills and Guards, add any extra result columns, then submit.

After you create the worker

Submitting opens the new worker's page. Support chatbots are listed under Chatbots in the left nav, and Success workers under Workers.

Left nav with the Chatbots section expanded next to the Account → Chatbots page, before any chatbot exists.

FAQ

What worker kinds can I create?

Support and Success. Workers you created earlier with other kinds (Chat, Email, VoC, Churn, Internal Q&A) keep running. Talk is not a creatable type.

Can I create a second support chatbot?

Yes. Create another Support worker and pick its inboxes and channel on the Channel step. It runs alongside your built-in Chat worker, so pause the built-in one if only the new chatbot should reply.

Where does the new worker show up after I create it?

Submitting takes you to the new worker's page. Support chatbots are listed under Chatbots in the left nav and in Account → Chatbots. Success workers are listed under Workers in the left nav and in Account → Workers.

Which card do I pick for a dedicated inbox for high-paying customers?

Pick Support, then tick only that Crisp inbox on the Channel step. The chatbot wakes on messages in that inbox and replies there.

Why doesn't my chatbot have Triggers or Incoming data settings?

Support chatbots always run on new Crisp messages, so their Settings tab shows Channel Settings instead. Change the inboxes or the Chat, Email, or Both choice there.
