Quick summary
Zendesk, Zoho Desk and Help Scout are the closest like-for-like Freshdesk alternatives. Zoho Desk is free for 3 users and Help Scout for 5 (vendor pricing pages, checked 22 October 2026).
Freddy AI Agent costs $49 per 100 sessions after 500 free ones per account, billed per session whether the AI resolves it or not (Freshdesk pricing page, October 2026).
Freshdesk teams we speak with report that Freddy's resolution rate levels off around 40% after two to three months (Zentesimal conversations with Freshdesk teams, 2026).
A help center alone puts an AI agent in the 20 to 35% resolution band. Customer data and permission to act move it to 65 to 95% (Zentesimal production accounts, 2026).
One Freshdesk team went from 40% to 75% containment, the share of conversations that never reached a human, in 45 days by adding an AI agent on top, without changing help desk (Zentesimal client data, 2026).
The best Freshdesk alternatives are Zendesk for depth, Help Scout for simplicity, Zoho Desk for price, Intercom for chat-led AI, HubSpot Service Hub for CRM-first teams and Gorgias for ecommerce. Many teams start looking because Freddy AI stalls after a good start. When that is the reason, a new help desk won't fix it.
This guide compares 10 help desks on price, AI pricing, G2 rating and fit. It ends with a decision matrix for the question behind most searches: switch, or keep Freshdesk and fix the AI.
Disclosure: Zentesimal gives you a team of AI agents for support, conversion, expansion and retention, and they run on top of any help desk, including Freshdesk. It is not on the list below, and it appears only in its own section near the end.
How do the best Freshdesk alternatives compare?
Zoho Desk and Help Scout are the cheapest way in, Zendesk and Kustomer the deepest, and Intercom the most AI-led. The table puts Freshdesk first as the baseline.
Freshdesk alternatives compared, October 2026

Why do teams look for a Freshdesk alternative?
Three reasons come up most: seat prices that grow faster than the team, features locked in higher plans, and AI that costs more than it resolves.
Freshdesk prices per agent, up to $89 per agent on Enterprise (annual billing). Every new agent adds a seat, and AI is billed on top. Reviewers on G2 describe the first two problems in their own words.
"Our team size changed, but the subscription could not change with it. A support platform should help a business adapt, not require it to keep paying for 15 unused seats."
A QA engineer in health care made the second point on G2 in July 2026: stronger automation, deeper analytics and customization sit in higher plans, "which can drive up costs for growing teams".
The third reason, AI, rarely shows up in reviews. It shows up in the bill and in the resolution rate, which is why it gets its own section.
Why is Freddy AI easy to start but hard to improve?
Freddy AI Agent resolves the easy questions within weeks. After that, resolution depends on data and permissions that a help center alone doesn't give it.
What does Freddy AI cost?
Freddy AI Agent is billed per session: $49 per 100 sessions once the 500 free sessions per account are used. A session is a 72-hour window from the customer's first message, and packs expire at the end of the billing cycle.
Freddy AI Copilot, the assistant that drafts replies for human agents, costs $29 per agent per month on Pro and Enterprise (Freshdesk pricing).
Per-session billing charges the sessions the AI didn't resolve too. The real cost is the price divided by the resolution rate.
At 40% resolution, 60 of every 100 Freddy sessions are paid for without being resolved.
Effective cost per resolved conversation at 40% resolution
AI product | Billed per | List price | Cost per resolved conversation |
|---|---|---|---|
Freddy AI Agent | Session | $0.49 | $1.23 |
Kustomer Concierge | Engaged conversation | $0.75 | $1.88 |
Help Scout AI Answers | Resolution | $0.75 | $0.75 |
Intercom Fin | Outcome | $0.99 | $0.99 |
List prices from vendor pages, 22 October 2026. Per-session and per-conversation prices divided by 0.4. Outcome (Intercom), engaged conversation (Kustomer) and session (Freshdesk) are each vendor's own billing unit, and each defines a resolution differently.
At 5,000 Freddy sessions a month, the bill is $2,450 whatever the resolution rate. At 40% resolution, that pays for 2,000 resolved conversations.
Why does resolution level off around 40%?
Freddy's resolution rate tends to stall near 40% after two to three months. That is what Freshdesk teams we speak with report (Zentesimal conversations with Freshdesk teams, 2026). That level sits near the ceiling of what a help center alone supports.

The same story repeats in support communities. A small team turns Freddy on for order status, refund policy and password resets. It handles the FAQ-style questions, but anything that requires looking something up still ends with a person, and the resolution rate barely moves.
The team then asks whether that is Freddy's limit or a weak help center. The resolution bands point to a third cause: missing data.
Resolution bands by what the AI can use
What the AI can use | Typical resolution band |
|---|---|
Help center and SOPs (standard operating procedures) | 20 to 35% |
+ past conversations and team chat, filtered | 50 to 65% |
+ customer data (plan, usage, billing, history) | 65 to 80% |
+ permission to act on the account | 80 to 95% |
Bands measured across Zentesimal accounts in production, 2026. A product with few plans lands higher than one where most answers depend on the account.
A question like "why was I charged twice?" needs the customer's billing data. "Cancel my extra seat" needs permission to change the plan. A better help center moves neither. The full method is in 8 keys to take your support AI from 20% to 95% resolution.
How did we pick and compare these tools?
We picked help desks that a Freshdesk team of 5 to 100 agents could realistically move to, and compared them on public data only.
- Same job as Freshdesk. Each tool runs shared ticketing for customer support. A help desk, in the plain sense, is the team or tool that answers customer problems.
- Sold today, with public pricing for the plans or for the AI. Kustomer is the exception: its plans are sales-led, but its AI prices are public.
- At least 150 reviews on G2.
- Prices read on each vendor's pricing page on 22 October 2026, in US dollars. Zendesk and Zoho Desk served regional prices to our location, so their USD figures come from 2026 pricing guides that agree on them. Zendesk's matches the €19 on its own page.
- Ratings from G2, with the month each was read. Zendesk, Intercom, HubSpot Service Hub and LiveAgent were read on G2 in October 2026. For the rest, G2 blocks automated reading, so we used the most recent archived copy of each page.
- Quotes are verbatim from G2 reviews, with role, industry and date.
We did not run hands-on trials of each tool, and we did not benchmark AI resolution across vendors. The resolution bands come from Zentesimal's own production accounts.
Which Freshdesk alternatives are worth shortlisting?
Ten help desks cover almost every reason to leave Freshdesk. Each entry says what it fixes and what it doesn't.
1. Zendesk: the enterprise-grade upgrade
Zendesk is the deepest option on this list, with the largest app marketplace. Its AI agent includes 5 automated resolutions per agent per month on Team plans and 10 on Professional, then charges per resolution.
Is Zendesk better than Freshdesk? It is deeper: more integrations, more routing options and more AI included per agent. Freshdesk is cheaper to start and quicker to set up.
"...it can feel overwhelming for new users due to its complex setup... and the pricing can be a bit high for smaller teams."
2. Help Scout: the simpler shared inbox
Help Scout feels like email, which keeps training short. Paid plans top out at $75 per user per month, and AI Answers can be capped per month.
Its limit is channels: a customer care lead on G2 points to "limited capability... for calls and chat" (May 2026).
3. Zoho Desk: the budget pick
Zoho Desk is the budget pick for teams already on Zoho CRM (customer relationship management). Zia, its AI, comes inside the Professional plan rather than as an add-on.
4. Gorgias: the ecommerce specialist
Gorgias connects deeply to Shopify, so agents can edit orders from the ticket. It bills by ticket volume, and its AI Agent costs $0.90 per automated interaction on annual billing. For a B2B (business-to-business) SaaS team, the ecommerce focus is a poor fit.
5. Intercom: the AI-first, chat-led platform
Intercom suits SaaS companies that support customers inside the product, by chat. Seats go up to $132 per month on the top plan, and Fin is billed on top.
"...it can scale up quickly as your user base or contact volume grows."
6. HubSpot Service Hub: the CRM-unified choice
Service Hub puts tickets and the CRM record in one place, which helps when sales and support share customers. Its AI Customer Agent runs on HubSpot Credits, with 500 to 5,000 included per month by plan.
Professional and Enterprise also carry onboarding fees of $1,500 and $3,500.
7. Front: the collaborative shared inbox
Front turns email into a shared workspace across support, sales and operations. Plans go up to $105 per seat per month on annual billing. Reviewers rate it highest among the G2-rated tools here, though some automation sits in higher plans.
8. Hiver: the Gmail-native option
Hiver runs inside Gmail, so a small team starts without learning a new tool. A sales executive on G2 notes that "adoption is fast and requires minimal training" (December 2025). Plans go up to $85 per user per month, with AI included from Growth.
9. LiveAgent: the budget multichannel option
LiveAgent covers email, chat, phone and social at a budget price. It charges no AI fee: the team connects its own OpenAI, Anthropic or Gemini account and pays that provider directly. That keeps the AI bill visible, and leaves its tuning to the team.
10. Kustomer: the CRM-style timeline for large teams
Kustomer organizes support around the customer rather than the ticket, with one timeline per person across channels. Plan prices are sales-led. Its AI is priced in public: Concierge per engaged conversation and Envoy, the agent assistant, at $50 per user per month.
"I think the prices are also bit high for the service provided, while the competitors are providing in a bit cheaper rates."
Should you switch help desk or add AI to Freshdesk?
It depends on why you want to leave. A new help desk fixes price, channel and workflow problems. It doesn't fix AI resolution, because resolution depends on the data and permissions the AI gets.
A help desk migration changes the ticketing tool. The AI's data and permissions stay the same.

Decision matrix: switch, add AI or stay
Main reason to leave | What fixes it | Recommended move |
|---|---|---|
Seat costs grow faster than the team | Per-ticket pricing (Gorgias) or free tiers (Zoho Desk, Help Scout) | Switch |
Needed features sit in a higher plan | A tool that includes them lower down | Compare plan matrices, then switch |
Missing channels (phone, social, in-app chat) | LiveAgent, Zendesk, Kustomer or Intercom | Switch |
Sales and support need one customer record | HubSpot Service Hub or Kustomer | Switch |
The team lives in Gmail | Hiver | Switch |
AI resolution stuck at the help center level | Customer data and permission to act for the AI | Keep Freshdesk, add an AI agent on top |
AI bill grows with sessions, resolved or not | AI billed per resolution | Keep Freshdesk, change the AI agent |
Ticketing works and the team is trained | Nothing | Stay |
A migration has its own cost: data export, rebuilt automations, and a team relearning its daily tool. Economists call these switching barriers, and they are procedural and relational as well as financial. Our post on adding AI without paying the tool switching cost prices them in detail.

Adding AI to Freshdesk instead of replacing it
Disclosure: this is the option Zentesimal makes. Zentesimal gives you a team of AI agents for support, conversion, expansion and retention. They run on top of the help desk a team already has (Zendesk, Freshdesk, Intercom, Crisp and others). Nothing gets migrated.
With access to the Freshdesk account, simple use cases show results from day one, and results stabilise after 2 to 3 weeks. The agent is then adapted to the operation: tags, macros, escalation paths and the limits set for each action.
The agent reads the help center and also each customer's context: plan, usage, billing and past conversations. With permission, it acts on the account, which is what moves resolution past what a help center alone reaches.
One Freshdesk team went from 40% to 75% containment (the share of conversations that never reached a human) in 45 days after adding a Zentesimal agent on top of its help desk (Zentesimal client data, 2026). The help desk, the team and the workflows stayed the same.
At Metricool, Bruno (Metricool's support agent in the chat) keeps 86% of conversations from reaching a human, and 72% end resolved with confidence, in production since March 2026 (Metricool success story). A conversation counts as resolved when the outcome is inferred from the conversation or confirmed by the customer.
Zentesimal charges per resolved conversation. Conversations the agent only took part in aren't billed.
